Foster Parenting with Children’s Village

A local approach to foster care that keeps children close to home and keeps siblings together.

The need in our community

For decades, Children’s Village has provided safe, stable homes for children in East Texas. As foster care in Texas has shifted to a community-based model, stepping into foster parent training and support is a natural extension of that work.

Foster parenting can feel overwhelming, especially when you are unsure what to expect. At Children’s Village, you are not stepping into this alone. You are joining a community built to support you and the children in your care every step of the way.

Why local foster homes matter

In Smith County and the surrounding areas of Henderson and Van Zandt counties, there are far fewer foster homes than there are children who need them.

When local homes are not available, children are often placed far from their community. That can mean:

Children’s Village believes foster care should protect more than safety. It should protect stability, connection, and family whenever possible.

By recruiting foster parents in these underrepresented counties, we are working to keep children closer to home and keep brothers and sisters together.

You will not be alone

Foster parenting is meaningful, difficult, and deeply human work. Fear of the unknown keeps many caring people from taking the first step. Children’s Village exists to walk with you through it.

When you foster with Children’s Village, you receive:

Training that prepares you for real-world situations
Ongoing support from a local, experienced team
Access to resources designed to support both you and the children in your care
A community that understands the emotional weight of fostering

Children’s Village also offers a physical place and property where children and foster families can gather for outings, connection, and support. This work is not meant to be done in isolation, and we are committed to making sure you never feel like you are on your own.

Is foster parenting a good fit for you?

Foster parents come from many backgrounds. What they share is a willingness to open their home and their heart to children who need stability and care.

You may be a good fit if you:

Have a heart for keeping children connected to their community
Are open to learning and growing through training and support
Want to partner with an organization that walks alongside you
You do not need to have all the answers to start the conversation.

A trusted partner with decades of experience

Children’s Village has been caring for children since the 1980s. Long before foster parenting became part of our work, our mission has always been the same: to provide safe, consistent care for children who need it most.

Today, Children’s Village is an approved provider within the Region 4 Community-Based Care network, working alongside 4Kids4Families. We recruit, train, and support foster parents who want to make a difference right here in East Texas.

This is not a new mission. It is a new way of carrying it forward.

Thank You!

When children enter foster care, they often lose more than their home. They lose their school, their friends, and sometimes even their siblings.

Your support helps children stay connected to what they know.
