2015 Annual Report -
January 1 - December 31, 2015

Mission Statement:  "Children's Village is a Christian children's home that shares God's love and strengthens our                                     community by providing healing and hope for neglected and abused boys and girls."

Agency Description:  Children's Village has served abused, neglected, and homeless children of East Texas since 1980.  We have two homes on our campus; hiring married couples to serve as surrogate parents to children we take into care.  For over 36 years we served teenagers in the two homes and had an independent living program.  In 2004 we amended our license to serve from birth to age 18 due to a need expressed by Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Since that time children who have been placed with us have mainly been under the age of 10.  Our goal is once a child comes to live at Children's Village they maintain their placement until they are (1) able to return home or (2) be adopted by a caring and loving family. Our homes are coed allowing siblings to remain together in the same home.

We are a Christian organization, however, have no specific church affiliation.  All children and staff are required to attend church and Sunday school every Sunday.  Children learn basic Biblical principles and are raised in an environment that involves nurturing and structure, along with teaching age appropriate skills individualized for each child.

What Makes Children's Village Unique:  Children's Village takes no state or federal funds.  While we have a contract with the state of Texas, this is a non-financial contract.  We are funded by caring individuals, churches and grants written to private foundations.

Adoptions:  Adoptions have increased since we began taking younger children in 2004.  As of December 31, 2014 we had a total of 31 adoptions with 25 of these adoptions being sibling groups.  Six have been single child adoptions.  17 children were reunited with their families.

Aftercare:  Children’s Village continues to stay in touch with children and their families who have returned home or been adopted offering moral and emotional support as well as training to families when needed. Children who have completed the program and have graduated from high school are eligible for college assistance.

2015 Accomplishments:  During 2015 Children’s Village served a total of 12 children.  The year began with 8 children living in our two homes.  This encompassed 3 sibling groups—a brother and sister, two sisters and a sibling group of four—3 brothers and their sister.  Throughout the year the sisters were adopted by an aunt and the brother and sister were adopted by a loving couple with no children.  After these adoptions, more sets of siblings came to live with us at Children’s Village—2 sisters and a brother and sister.  These placements also led to adoptions—the sisters were adopted by their grandmother and the brother and sister were able to return home to live with their mom.  These adoptions brought the total number of adoptions to 31 since our first adoption in 2007.  Children’s Village continues to meet our goal of keeping children until they are able to return home or be adopted, 100% of the time since 2004.

We did have staff turnover in 2014.  We had one married couple resign in April and another resign in November.  However, thanks to our assistants, children remained living at Children’s Village until another married couple was hired.
